SEMI Circles (Spirituality, Encouragement, Ministry and Ideas)
At South Valley, our small group ministry program is called SEMI circles. Our circles are SEMI circles because they never close. They are open to all members and friends of South Valley UU Society. Our groups meet monthly for two hours with an agenda prepared by the minister or small group facilitators. These discussion guides are created around the congregation's focus question of the month, and so will relate to the sermons, newsletter, and religious education offerings. Their simple format includes opening and closing words, a check-in time when members of the group share personal joys and concerns, discussion of the focus questions, and time for topics relevant to each particular group. In addition to the monthly gatherings, the small groups, or SEMI circles, are committed to serving South Valley and our larger community through intentional, regular service projects. The South Valley Choir
The SVUUS choir is a dynamic group of congregants that love to sing! They hold choir practice every Sunday morning at 9am in the sanctuary and sing about once a month at a Sunday Service. Membership in the choir is always open. Women's GroupThe Women's Group is a monthly gathering of women over 21 for discussion, support, and fun. The group is hosted in a different person's home each month and there is often a theme, project or focus for the meeting. Contact Mary Norton to learn more. Interweave The SVUUS community includes many LGBTQ members and families, friends, and allies who participate in virtually all aspects of congregational life and leadership. Interweave is the continental organization of UUA affilated groups working to end oppression based on sexual orientation and gender identity, recognizing that we will not be free until all oppression is a thing of the past. After a hiatus of several years, we once again have interest and excitement about offering LGBTQ-focused activities and programs at SVUUS. For information about activities and scheduling, contact Luci Malin or Paul Barron. For more information you can visit the Interweave Continental web page . CUUPsThe Covenant of Unitarian Universalist Pagans is a national organization for Unitarian Universalists whose spirituality is earth-based. It is an opportunity for UU's who are curious about or involved in Paganism to teach, learn and network. South Valley CUUPs holds an open board meeting the first Tuesday of every month at 8 pm. CUUPs offers several monthly activities for the community at South Valley. - Pancake Breakfasts – On the second Sunday of the month, CUUPs cooks up a full breakfast as a fundraiser for the church and CUUPs (50/50 split). We use the money we raise to bring in special speakers and musicians.
- Dark Moon Drumming – On the dark of the moon we gather to drum for meditation and to lighten the spirit. Drums and other rhythm instruments are provided or you can bring your own.
- Other - We typically do a monthly social event. Previous meet-ups have included soap making class, mead making class, lectures, movies, parties and pot-lucks.
