Reverend Karen Madrone
2019-2020 Interim Minister
Rev. Karen joined us on August 1, 2019. She completed a Master of Divinity degree at Union Theological Seminary in New York and holds a Master’s in Public Administration from the University of Missouri-Columbia. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Wesleyan College. Past ministries include internships at First Unitarian Congregational Society (Brooklyn, NY) and the UU Fellowship of Northern Westchester (Mount Kisco, NY).
Reverend John Cooper
John works as a Board-Certified Chaplain at the Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City, providing spiritual care to patients, families and staff. Areas of interest include the use of research to demonstrate the role of spiritual care, life stories as sacred texts, and end of life needs. John is also a member of our choir, The South Valley Singers.
Acting Director of Religious Exploration
Rebecca joined South Valley in Summer 2019. She has experience leading education in diverse religious settings, and her educational background in social work and sociology positions her to work with children and youth with a wide range of needs and lives outside of Sunday morning. She loves storytelling and writing.
John earned an MFA In Music from the University of Utah in 2017. In addition to arranging music and singing solos at South Valley, John leads our choir, The South Valley Singers. When not at South Valley, John teaches music at the Madeleine Choir School in Salt Lake City.
Cindy has served in administration and office manager roles for South Valley since 2014. Before that, she was a minister, teacher, and counselor at a spiritual center for more than 20 years. She just celebrated her 32nd wedding anniversary
Rick is a keyboardist, vocal coach, composer and music educator. His long career includes stints with the Oakland, San Antonio, and Utah symphonies, and he was instrumental in creating the Film Composer’s Lab at the Sundance Institute. He has been associated with Utah’s Repertory Dance Theater for over thirty years.
