Sitting with Trees

June 3, 2021 by Lora Young

“I go among trees and sit still.”
– Wendell Berry

A few weeks ago I invited us to consider what sabbath as a spiritual/life practice might give us in this time of emerging from the pandemic but as yet still just that- emergent.

As we slowly re-engage, (taking off our masks perhaps?) my hope and encouragement to each of us is to take a moment to notice the returns and the gifts that go along in this process. Especially when things are newly challenging- because life is always so, try and gently remember that we are more tired than we think, and taking a moment to breathe, reflect and choose our response, can be a moment of sabbath.

The last week brought news that Rebecca, our stalwart DRE will be moving on to meet adventures this summer. Rebecca has done a tremendous job at keeping RE going during covid- reaching out to families, reassuring our children and youth when the uncertainty was high and delighting us with her stories on Sunday’s. Please join me in sending her off well. And I want to thank her directly by saying simply this: Rebecca, thank you for so graciously leaning into the tasks at hand and know that you will be missed.

Now- go find some trees and be still. And Happy Pride!

With love.
Rev. Lora
